Today the Netherlands Federation of University Medical Centres (NFU) and five unions gathered again around the table to discuss the new cao for the UMC employees. Topics that are needed for an agreement were introduced by the UMCs and the five unions and discussed in a pleasant atmosphere.

This coming Friday, the NFU will present a concrete proposal covering these different points of attention. It will specify how the available funds can be shared among them, while taking into account our employees’ wishes. During the dialogue sessions, the employees stated that compensation of travel expenses and a generational policy were very important, in addition to a wage increase. The NFU proposal will form the topic of discussion during the fifth negotiation round.

When calculating the financial leeway, an important factor is the funding received from the government, the Government contribution to Labour Cost Development (Overheidsbijdrage in de Arbeidskostenontwikkeling, OVA). With regard to a wage increase, the NFU wants it to match the purchasing power development. It is also comparing the wages paid at the UMCs with those paid in other healthcare sectors, in the public sector, and in business.
