The university medical centres are the driving factor behind innovation, quality, accessibility and effectiveness of healthcare. A number of issues that decide policy have been designated as topics.

In order to improve the quality, effectiveness and accessibility of healthcare, the UMCs will do even more to promote cooperative ventures, engage in networking and develop innovative healthcare models. The UMCs also act in a coordinating and stimulating capacity in the area of patient care from the existing education and training regions. They do this in dialogue with general hospitals and other healthcare providers. The UMCs actively take part in Dutch top sector policy and in setting the agenda of the European Commission for Research and Innovation.

The NFU has designated several topics:

  • Quality of care
  • Clinical research
  • Palliative care
  • Oncology
  • Geriatric care
